Entrepreneurship competence is becoming one of the central competences of lifelong learning in the upcoming comprehensive renewal of curricula in Slovenian primary and secondary education. The knowledge that teachers will need to introduce the said competence in their lessons is not self-evident. With its traditional August training for primary and secondary school teachers, the Development Center of Novo mesto has been successfully addressing this challenge for some time. This year’s training, the PoMP Academy, was special, as it took place within the framework of the PoMP project – Fostering Entrepreneurship Skills in Schools.
As every year so far, the attendance at the PoMP Academy was excellent. 21 teachers from 10 primary and 3 secondary schools from Novo mesto and its surroundings took part in the training. This year’s novelty was preliminary training in the Moodle e-learning environment. The project partners of PoMP have prepared entrepreneurship content in 8 modules, which covered the entire spectrum of knowledge needed for successful management of entrepreneurship content at school. The highlight was the live training at the Podbreznik Business Incubator. There, through exercises and workshops, teachers learned about the elements of a business model, and above all, the importance of empathy in the development of a business idea. The lecturer, who has a lot of experience working in companies, was able to share his rich knowledge and experience with the teachers. Together with the online program, the training lasted 20 hours.
A very interesting year is ahead of us in the field of school entrepreneurship. This year, the PoMP project will enrich autumn entrepreneurial activities in schools and enable some of the most active mentors to witness the good practice of introducing entrepreneurship in education and teacher training in Trondheim, Norway. The knowledge that we will get and share in the PoMP project will be uploaded to online classrooms, so that it will remain with teachers even after the project is completed in 2024.
The PoMP project is supported by the Norway Grants within the framework of the Education, Scholarships, Apprenticeship, and Youth Entrepreneurship program. The project partners, the Primorska Technology Park, Development Center of Novo mesto, Norwegian University of Science and Technology NTNU, SAŠA Incubator, Technology Park Ljubljana, and Scientific Research Center Bistra, Ptuj, are aware that the development of entrepreneurship competence is key for the future, when the citizens of Europe will be faced with many challenges. With the PoMP project and Academy, we will add our pebble to the mosaic of efforts for a richer and more sustainable future.
